Data Intern
We are seeking an analytical and tech-savvy High School Data Scraper Intern to join our team remotely. This is an excellent unpaid opportunity for a student interested in data collection, programming/scripting, and how data can be used in a business context. You should have hands-on experience in building, running, and managing processes to gather publicly available information from the web.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with our team to understand data requirements and identify potential online sources for publicly available information.
- You must already know how to use and potentially develop simple scripts or utilize tools to automate the extraction of data from websites (web scraping).
- Run and monitor data scraping processes, troubleshooting basic issues as they arise.
- Help clean, organize, and structure the collected data into a usable format (e.g., spreadsheets).
- Learn about ethical considerations and best practices related to web scraping and data collection (e.g., respecting website terms of service, robots.txt).
- Document the scraping processes and data sources used.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in high school and based in the USA over the summer.
- Strong interest in technology, data, and problem-solving.
- Eagerness to learn on your own and teach the team about programming/scripting concepts (prior experience in languages like Python is a plus, but not required – a strong desire to learn is key).
- Logical thinker with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions and work methodically.
- Familiarity with web browsers and basic web navigation.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment.
- Self-starter with the ability to manage time effectively.
