About the Company & Project
We are Alterea Inc., an experience design company based in Los Angeles, CA. Through live and digital mediums we create experiences that draw on historical research and emerging art forms to explore and highlight participant agency. Our core team met as undergraduates at the University of Southern California designing experiences that combined immersive theater and interactive gaming.
Agents of Influence is an in-development educational video game to teach students media literacy skills including research, analysis and how to have good conversations. We are seeking a Business Development Intern to join our team and support various business development and marketing activities. We’re looking for someone who thinks strategically, has an eye for detail, is creative and a quick learner. This person will gain detailed insight into the high-level decision-making in the commercialization of games and edtech products in a startup. This is a part-time remote unpaid internship with the potential for increased responsibility and pay based on performance.

Location and Work Environment
This is a fully remote position, allowing you the flexibility to work from home or another suitable location. To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- Reliable Internet Connection: A stable high-speed internet connection (minimum 20 Mbps) is required for video conferencing and accessing company tools.
- Equipment: You should have access to a reliable computer with a webcam and a headset. If needed, the company can provide additional equipment to support your work.
- Workspace: A quiet, distraction-free workspace is essential for meetings and focused work.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development Responsibilities
- Explore business model options and test each iteratively.
- Develop distribution strategies.
- Build and manage curriculum partnerships across core areas.
- Identify and recruit commission-based salespeople.
- Analyze different budgets we fit into and how to access them.
- Assist in grant writing and finding grant partnership systems with schools and other organizations.
- Test the parent or student market for ease of entry.
- Establish channel partnerships for microschooling, charter schools, and homeschooling.
- Partner with professional development and micro-credential organizations for promotion and employment opportunities.
- Identify cross-selling options to increase income packaged by areas of interest.
- Develop strategies to work with and monetize partnerships within the misinformation ecosystem (e.g., platforms like TikTok, tools like Allsides).
Additional Responsibilities
- Work in a timely fashion to meet deadlines and support team projects.
- Adapt to new tasks and responsibilities as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn.
Compensation and Benefits
This is an unpaid internship. There is potential to grow into a paid role.
