About Youth Fishing League
Youth Fishing League brings kids and families together through fishing, outdoor learning, and environmental stewardship. In 2026 we are running seven events across the DC/Maryland region, with 600+ participants expected across the season.
We are growing a family-centered outdoor community and looking for someone who can help us expand our reach, recruit volunteers, and connect more families to our events.
Role Description
The Community Growth & Volunteer Outreach Intern will help Youth Fishing League grow participation across our events by supporting volunteer recruitment, community outreach, and digital engagement.
This role is ideal for someone who understands how to reach people online in a way that feels natural, local, and community-driven. You will help us grow event attendance, recruit volunteers, and expand awareness through social media, community groups, and direct outreach.
This is part content, part outreach, and part grassroots community building.
Responsibilities
- Help recruit volunteers for Youth Fishing League events through digital outreach and community engagement
- Identify and engage relevant local Facebook groups, parent groups, neighborhood pages, schools, churches, and community boards
- Share upcoming events in community spaces in a way that feels helpful, local, and authentic
- Create and schedule social media posts for upcoming events, volunteer needs, and community updates
- Draft short outreach messages for volunteers, parents, and local partners
- Help monitor comments, messages, and community responses across platforms
- Track which outreach channels drive the most volunteer interest, registrations, and engagement
- Help maintain a simple outreach tracker for community groups, volunteer leads, and posting performance
- Support light Canva design needs for flyers, volunteer asks, and event promotion

Preferred Skills

- Organized, proactive, and comfortable working independently
- Interest in community-building, youth programs, outdoor recreation, or nonprofit work
- Familiarity with Canva is helpful but not required
Time Commitment
Approximately 5 hours per week. Summer 2026 cohort. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
