The Youth Fishing League (YFL) is seeking an organized and youth-focused SSL Volunteer Program Manager to oversee our team of SSL students supporting the 2026 YFL season.
This role ensures that student volunteers stay on schedule, meet their project deliverables, and receive clear support, guidance, and feedback. The Program Manager will act as the primary coordinator between YFL leadership, partners, and youth volunteers completing service-learning hours.
This position may be filled by one Program Manager or a small 2–3 person Volunteer Leadership Board.
Key Responsibilities
1. Student Oversight & Weekly Check-Ins
- Hold weekly meetings (virtual or in-person) with SSL students to review assignments and progress.
- Provide direction, coaching, and accountability for weekly tasks.
- Ensure student deliverables meet YFL quality and branding expectations.
2. Project & Timeline Management
Oversee the students’ work across the four phases of the 2025–2026 season:
Phase 1: Event Prep
- Provide feedback on campaigns such as Tales from the Tackle Box, Girls Fish Too, Donate Your Reels, and youth rodeo updates.
- Approve final event materials and outreach assets.
- Ensure video content, posters, and sponsor one-sheets are completed on time.
- Track progress on ongoing donation campaigns and gear contributions.
- Plan data collection for reports
Phase 2: Event Builds
- Review student-produced interviews, photos, onsite content, and updates.
- Ensure each event’s deliverables (Allen Pond, Halcyon, Camp, etc.) are completed.
- Oversee sponsor thank-you materials.
3. Service Hours Documentation
- Approve SSL hours weekly or bi-weekly for submission to management.
- Maintain a shared hours log and verify planned hours per student.
- Help students maintain their point-tracking system for peers.
4. Partner Coordination & Communication
- Communicate with Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, and Maryland DNR partners.
- Share student progress, outreach materials, and event visibility updates.
- Coordinate any required on-site visits or interviews with partners.
5. Support Student Development
- Provide creative and leadership feedback.
- Encourage problem-solving and ownership of YFL content.
- Ensure students feel supported while meeting expectations.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
- Experience working with middle school students and high school freshmen or leading youth programs
- Basic interest in environmental education, fishing, or the outdoors
- Comfort reviewing creative materials (flyers, posters, short videos)
- Strong organization and communication skills
Time Commitment
- Approximately 3–5 hours per week
- Weekly student check-ins (30–45 minutes)
- Additional communication during peak event planning months
