Role Description (expected tasks, projects, responsibilities, etc.)
- Conduct sector-specific mapping and identify relevant tech startups from around Africa
- Conduct market research to understand the startup’s technology and assess potential digital harms and safety risks
- Develop harm models and safety risk assessments tailored to the product or platform being studied
- Network with founders and key executives of the startups
- Conduct structured interviews to gauge their knowledge of trust and safety, internal frameworks, and current safety practices
- Contribute to reports and recommendations that support proactive integration of trust and safety into their operations
- Participate in monthly knowledge-sharing sessions with fellow interns and Trusted Tech mentors
Application Requirements
- Strong interest in technology, ethics, and online safety
- Good research and writing skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Students or early-career professionals in tech, policy, law, or related fields are encouraged to apply
Familiarity with particular software programs, languages spoken, etc.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
- English fluency required; French or Portuguese is a plus
- Familiarity with online research tools and platforms (e.g., Crunchbase, LinkedIn)
