We are seeking a Backend Development Intern to collaborate directly with the CEO of Project Biotech.
This role is ideal for a high school student interested in backend development, databases, and building the infrastructure behind a biotech-related web or mobile app. The intern will focus on designing MySQL databases and writing PHP API endpoints, with the potential to explore Flutter-based app development depending on progress and interest. All development will be done within a hosted LAMP environment using tools like phpMyAdmin, Postman, and GitHub.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement MySQL database schemas and tables to support app functionality.
- Develop secure, well-documented PHP API endpoints for use by frontend interfaces.
- Work within a hosted LAMP environment to deploy and test backend code.
- Use phpMyAdmin for database management and Postman for testing API endpoints.
- Use GitHub to collaborate and version control backend code.
- Collaborate closely with the CEO to align backend architecture with app features and functionality.
- Optionally contribute to Flutter-based mobile development depending on project needs and experience.
Benefits:
- Practical experience building backend infrastructure for a biotech startup project.
- One-on-one mentorship from a biomedical engineering graduate student and startup founder.
- Exposure to industry-relevant tools like phpMyAdmin, Postman, GitHub, and Flutter.
- Opportunity to develop real-world backend and API development skills in a live project.
- Flexible, remote work tailored to your high school schedule and learning pace.
Requirements:
- High school student enrolled in a U.S.-based academic program.
- Foundational experience with backend programming (PHP, MySQL) and interest in software development.
- Willingness to work within a web-hosted LAMP environment (cPanel, FTP).
- Familiarity or willingness to learn phpMyAdmin, Postman, and GitHub.
- Strong communication, organization, and independent problem-solving skills.
- Interest in mobile development with Flutter is a bonus, not a requirement.
Time Commitment: ~8 hours per week
