About Youth Fishing League
Youth Fishing League brings kids and families together through fishing, outdoor learning, and shared community experiences. A core part of our programming connects fishing to food, including teaching families about invasive species like blue catfish and how responsible fishing can support healthy ecosystems and healthy meals. In 2026 we are running seven events across the DC/Maryland region with 600+ expected participants.
Role Description
The Bay-to-Table & Sustainable Fishing Research Intern will help Youth Fishing League build content around the connection between fishing, food, and sustainability. This role is ideal for a student interested in food systems, culinary topics, sustainability, or environmental policy.
You will research blue catfish and other invasive species as a food source, help build kid-friendly handouts on responsible fishing, and contribute to our Bay-to-Table program narrative.
Responsibilities
- Research blue catfish and other invasive species as sustainable food sources
- Help draft kid-friendly and parent-friendly handouts on Bay-to-Table topics
- Summarize information on responsible fishing practices and catch limits
- Help compile family-friendly recipes and food safety basics for invasive species
- Research local Maryland and DC restaurants, chefs, and markets that work with invasive or sustainable species
- Support partnership research for chefs, food brands, or restaurants aligned with our Bay-to-Table program
- Help prepare background materials for sponsor and grant conversations on this topic
