The Student Mobilization Intern is a key part of our high school outreach strategy. The work of the Student Mobilization Intern at Novelly is split in four categories: (1) email outreach to students, (2) student toolkit co-design, (3) DON training facilitation, and (4) other expectations.
Email Outreach to Students
- You’ll research the emails of students who’d be most interested in participating in Youth Authors Week, such as leaders of National English Honor Society chapters, student council leaders, and leaders of clubs related to reading or creative writing.
- You’ll compile 150+ emails and reach out to those students directly about participating in YAW. The goal is that 30+ of those students will organize their club or classroom to participate.
- You’ll be responsible for communicating with the students who are interested in participating and helping make sure they have what they need to participate meaningfully in YAW.
Student Toolkit Co-Design
- The student toolkit is based on previous programs, such as Novelly’s Youth Advocates, Youth Marketing Internship, and SPEAK program, and combines the best elements of those programs while also allowing anyone to participate easily.
- You’ll help with designing the Student Toolkit, which will be a resource on the Novelly website that students can sign up for to complete a service project for YAW. This service project can look like writing a school newspaper article about how to participate in YAW and/or organizing their club or classroom to participate.
- Co-designing the toolkit will look like brainstorming ideas, providing feedback, testing the toolkit, and getting feedback from the students you’re in contact with.
Other Expectations
- Meetings: You’ll be expected to attend a weekly meeting with Anna and other team members, which will be scheduled according to your availability. During this meeting, you’ll provide an update on how your student outreach and mobilization efforts are going. You’ll also participate in ideation and feedback sessions for the student toolkit.
- Email: You’ll be given a Novelly email. You’ll be expected to check your Novelly email on a daily basis, and respond professionally and promptly to other students.
This is an unpaid role, 5-10 hours a week.
