This internship is an excellent opportunity for students interested in social justice, community development, criminal justice, or nonprofit work to contribute meaningfully to our mission while building real-world research and analytical skills.
Role Overview:
As a Research Intern, you will play a vital role in helping Hey, Blue! understand the landscape of community-police relations. Your work will directly contribute to data-driven decisions, program development, and impactful storytelling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on community engagement trends, law enforcement practices, and related topics.
- Gather and analyze data to support ongoing Hey, Blue! programs, including design thinking sessions and mobile platform development.
- Explore and summarize studies, statistics, and best practices in reducing bias, improving public safety, and fostering trust between law enforcement and communities.
- Create concise reports, fact sheets, and presentations to inform the Hey, Blue! team and stakeholders.
- Assist in identifying key metrics to measure the impact of Hey, Blue!’s initiatives.
- Collaborate with the team to collect qualitative and quantitative feedback from event participants.
- Stay up to date on social justice issues and trends to ensure the relevance of Hey, Blue!’s approach.

Qualifications:
- Current high schooler with preferred fields of study in: Sociology, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Communications, or related areas.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in social justice, law enforcement, or community engagement.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in online research and basic data analysis.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace tools (Docs, Sheets, Slides) or similar platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience conducting research or writing reports.
- Understanding of nonprofit work or community outreach.
- Passion for creating positive social change.
Time Commitment:
- 10-15 hours per week. Flexible around academic schedules.
