Youth Fishing League Hybrid / Field-Based / Internship / Summer 2026
About Youth Fishing League
Youth Fishing League brings kids and families together through fishing, outdoor learning, and environmental stewardship. In 2026 we are running seven events across the DC/Maryland region, with 600+ participants expected across the season.
We are looking for a creative intern to help us capture the voices, faces, and stories that make Youth Fishing League events meaningful.
Role Description
The Community Storyteller & Content Intern will attend Youth Fishing League events and capture real stories from families, kids, and volunteers through short on-camera interviews and candid content.
The primary focus of this role is conducting short, friendly interviews with event participants and turning those conversations into content for our website, social media, and sponsor storytelling. Photography and video of event moments are a secondary support function.
This role is for someone who is warm, personable, and comfortable approaching families and kids in a casual outdoor setting to capture their experience on camera.
Responsibilities
- Conduct short on-camera interviews with kids, families, and volunteers during events
- Ask simple, engaging questions that draw out natural, memorable responses
- Capture candid video of event moments including first catches, family interactions, and community highlights
- Support basic event photography as a secondary function
- Organize and upload interview clips and photos after events in a clear, usable format
- Flag strongest interview clips and moments for website, social media, and sponsor use
- Help Youth Fishing League build a growing library of community stories told in participants' own words
What You'll Gain
- Hands-on experience in community storytelling, on-camera interviewing, and nonprofit content creation
- Portfolio-ready interview and video content from live outdoor events
- Experience creating content used directly on a nonprofit website, social media, and in sponsorship materials
- Real-world practice capturing stories in fast-moving, people-centered live environments
- Mentorship in storytelling, content strategy, and mission-driven brand communication
Preferred Skills
- Warm, friendly, and comfortable talking to kids and families in casual settings
- Able to conduct a simple, natural on-camera interview without it feeling formal or scripted
- Comfortable shooting short video clips on a phone or camera
- Good instincts for a compelling moment or a quotable response
- Organized and able to sort and upload content clearly after events
- Interest in storytelling, journalism, media, youth programs, or community work
Important Requirement
Because this role involves minors and takes place during live Youth Fishing League events, interns under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the full duration of any in-person event, including setup and breakdown.
Time Commitment
Event-based attendance across the Summer 2026 season. Events are held on weekends across the DC/Maryland region. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
Application Requirements
- Name, school, and grade/year
- A few sentences on why you're interested
- Optional sample of video, interview, social, or storytelling work
