Lift and Shift Foundation is seeking motivated and creative high school students to join our Science Ambassador team as a Content Creator Intern. In this role, you will help translate scientific research, STEM initiatives, laws and bills, or recreational therapy concepts into engaging and accessible content for public audiences. You’ll work closely with our founder and team, using your creativity to support our mission of making STEM more accessible and inclusive.
There are specific sub-roles to match your skills and interests, making it easier for you to contribute meaningfully and develop new skills in the process.
Responsibilities
Interns can choose to specialize in one of the following areas or combine tasks based on their interests and the needs of the organization:
1. Social Media Content Creator
- Develop and schedule posts for platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, and Mastodon/Bluesky.
- Create visually engaging graphics using Canva for campaigns, events, or STEM-related facts.
- Research and repost content from relevant organizations (e.g., animal shelters, STEM initiatives) to amplify their message and engage audiences.
- Research and curate motivational content related to STEM fields (e.g., quotes, achievements of diverse scientists).
2. Video Production Assistant
- Assist in scripting, recording, and editing video content for YouTube and social media.
- Brainstorm and create engaging short-form video content (Reels, Shorts) on topics such as recreational therapy, hobbies, and STEM inspiration.
- Develop quick, resource-light videos, such as slide-based explainers, surveys, or feature walkthroughs of our games and apps.
- Support the creation of thematic playlists, such as study or relaxation music, to boost engagement on YouTube.
3. Blog and Web Content Contributor
- Write blog posts on topics such as STEM careers, recreational therapy, or highlights from our review paper collection.
- Assist with maintaining and updating the organization’s website and its subdomain featuring games and hobby resources.
- Create step-by-step guides or tutorials for hobbies and games in collaboration with web design interns.
- Optimize blog posts with SEO techniques to maximize reach.
4. Survey and Engagement Specialist
- Design and distribute surveys using Google Forms to collect data on audience preferences or feedback on apps and games.
- Analyze survey results and present them in engaging formats (infographics, videos, or blog posts).
- Develop interactive content that invites audience participation, such as polls, quizzes, or feedback requests.
- Highlight intern experiences through interviews or testimonials, turning them into inspiring social media or blog posts.
5. Legislative Advocacy Assistant
- Use public databases like CRS and federal/state legislative trackers to identify relevant laws, bills, or legislation related to STEM, recreational therapy, and military veterans' issues.
- Draft briefs or summaries to educate internal stakeholders about legislative priorities.
- Assist in preparing public-facing content (e.g., blog posts or infographics) summarizing key legislative efforts.
Required Skills and Qualities
- Creative Thinking: Ability to think of innovative ways to communicate scientific ideas and engage diverse audiences.
- Collaboration: Willingness to work with a team and adapt to feedback.
- Basic Digital Tools: Familiarity with Canva, Google Workspace, or other beginner-friendly tools (training provided if needed).
- Interest in STEM: Enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, math, or related fields, even if you’re just starting to explore them.

Commitment:
- Flexible schedule: Approximately 6-10 hours per week over 12 weeks.
