About Hey, Blue!
Hey, Blue! was started by one word: “Hello.” When its founder, John Verdi, joined the NYPD in 1997, his father told him that those five letters could transform the way the community perceived him and his peers- and Hey, Blue! was the continuation of that lesson. Built off of the triumphs and traumas of being a police officer and community member, this organization is a non-profit dedicated to reshaping the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Through research, innovation, education, and interactive tools, Hey, Blue! helps officers and citizens meet each other not with suspicion, but with empathy, mutual support, and genuine human connection. With every “Hello”, we take another step towards a better future where all of us feel empowered by our bond with one another.
