Role Description
The Press & PR Intern is responsible for assisting the Director of Marketing in pitching Legacy’s leadership programs, campaigns, and student stories to local, regional, and national media outlets. This role will focus on curating and sending pitches, building press lists, and identifying opportunities to amplify Legacy’s work outside of our owned channels. The goal is to help Legacy secure consistent press coverage that highlights our impact and keeps us visible year-round. This role is 75% pitching/outreach, 25% amplification and tracking.
Responsibilities
You’ll work closely with the Marketing team to:
- Research and build media lists for local, regional, and national outlets.
- Draft and send press pitches highlighting Legacy programs, campaigns, and student stories.
- Assist with securing coverage for major events like Legacy Ball & Legacy Summit.
- Track and compile press coverage reports (UVMs, impressions, etc.).
- Brainstorm creative press angles that connect Legacy’s mission with pop culture, trending issues, or student leadership.
- Support in managing relationships with reporters, editors, and media partners.
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Can juggle deadlines and details like a pro (metaphorically, not literally — but if you can literally juggle, that’s a flex).
- Loves storytelling, writing, and finding the perfect hook.
- Has strong organizational skills and isn’t afraid of spreadsheets (you’ll be building media lists 👀).
- Brings a positive, can-do attitude and youthful energy to the table.
- Pays attention to detail (yes, we’ll sneak in typos to test you).
- Is passionate about amplifying student voices and helping young people shine.
